Enchanted Lands – Official Progress report #2

July 2nd, 2012

Okay so I don’t actually have any screenshots or anything to show. Sometimes in design it’s necessary to write out words, for design stuff.

Today I created the 3 problems you must solve (or rather have Harold in the game solve). In this first room demo which is in Harold’s lab.

Firstly we need the spellbook. Without it you won’t be able to save the game or use inventory or anything like that. So generally speaking you need to find the spellbook. You will be able to get one item at a time, however, in order to solve the problem.

Secondly the spells themselves. Basically a mysterious wind blew in and picked up most of the hats Harold had on his hat-rack. These are important as they are used for spells. Harold must wear goofy hats in a certain order to execute a certain spell. Harold must find the 3 hats of the first spell after he’s identified it in the spellbook.

Thirdly the door is sealed and Harold forgot what he used to seal it. He didn’t use a normal spell however he was magically sealed in.

Once these 3 things are accomplished he can leave the room.

Tomorrow I believe I will start laying out the room.

New mockups!

July 1st, 2012

One new image 4 new mockups. Here it is. Nothing too fancy. Just the buttons for each submenu, basically when you click/top on the screen, the first one pops up (the one on the upper right) then if you click the buttons, for each of the 4, a sub menu pops up. Spellbook may have a standard menu, this is where, the main characters spells will be, the inventory, and system settings including save games will be located. Haven’t decided on what I will do for that just yet.)

A little mockup progress

June 25th, 2012

I just wanted to post a little bit of something. An update to my next mockup. Just want to get into the habit of updating every day or nearly every day. So I’m not entirely done, but I’m almost done with a template. There will be 4 buttons now. Look, Sense, Use, Spellbook. Spellbook will have it’s own separate menu that’s why it doesn’t have it’s own sub-menu.

Next up — Actually adding the sub menu nodes to the main buttons in the template, then building another mockup based on that.

Update 6/26 : Finished the outer menu options, so the template is slightly different. Next I’m going to make a full mockup with either icons or words, or both so I can see how they look.

Update 6/27 : So here’s a little more progress on the mockup. Across the buttons will be labels that will extend as far as they need, and be readable. This is just the main options, the submenus I will update later.

Here’s the original full template, including main buttons, and the “geometry” of the circles. (Essentially concentric squares which I used to create the circles).

Update 7/01 : — Here are all the submenu buttons — will be posting regular mockups soon.
